A vampire movie for teens, based on a best-selling book series; no, it’s not the latest Twilight flick but rather an adaptation of the young adult novels by Darren Shan – compressing several books into one film.
John C. Reilly stars as the resident vampire in a travelling carnival cum freakshow, who transforms a nosy high school kid (Chris Massoglia) into his half-vampire lackey.
Reilly is in good form here and Salma Hayek and Patrick Fugit provide support as a bearded lady and snake boy, respectively.
Directed by Paul Weitz (About a Boy), this light, tongue-in-cheek adolescent adventure fancies itself as a new franchise.
