Based on the books by Michael Crichton, Steven Spielberg helmed Jurassic Park and The Lost World before Captain America director Joe Johnston took over for Jurassic Park III.
Credited as one of the first films to utilise photo-real computer generated creatures, the original Jurassic Park paved the way for ambitious filmmakers to realise projects previously thought impossible. The special effects team received three Academy Awards for their work.
The films will be available as a Blu-ray digipak, but it’s the Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy – exclusive to JB Hi-Fi– that fans will want to get their hands on.
This Limited Edition set includes Blu-ray editions and digital copies of the original and its two sequels, together with a cool T-Rex model bursting through the gates of the Park.
We’ve checked out the first film, Jurassic Park, and are happy to report the HD transfer is a belter; revealing incredible detail in the dinosaur skin tones and Hawaiian locations.

Subject: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy
Based on the book by Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg, is the story of the rebirth of a 65 million year old species - dinosaurs, through cloning - 4.5/5 .
The Lost World: Jurassic Park overview:
Based on the book by Michael Crichton, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg, continues the story from the catastrophic events of Jurassic Park - 3.5/5.
Jurassic Park III overview:
Jurassic Park III, directed by Joe Johnston, features the return of Dr Alan Grant to face his fears again - 3/5.
Video:
All three films are encoded with a VC-1 codec and presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio in 1080p. The video has a nice sharpness to it with full and rich colours and deep black levels. Grain is present which provides tonnes of detail and clarity - 4/5.
Audio:
All three films are presented with a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack, which are simply outstanding. Dialogue and music is detailed and clear along with the roaring sound effects once the action kicks in - 5/5.
Extras: 4/5.
It's not half bad either. The fact is that Jurassic Park the original is a quality film, particularly in terms of special effects and story telling (Speilberg's early 90s dinosaurs continue to shame some of the blithely constructed offerings from directors over the past 12 months even).
What's even better about the series is that the 'man runs from hungry dinosaur' premise isn't whipped to the bone like so many dead horses.
While plot lines arguably weaken as the series progresses, there's always enough on offer to inspire viewers - particularly in terms of the carnivore factor. By the third film even the menacing T-Rex isn't safe from the other dinousaurs!
