Zoe Saldana plays a sexy hitwoman who is tutored in killing from childhood by her uncle (Cliff Curtis), in order to get revenge on the drug cartel who murdered her mother and father in her native Bogota, Colombia.
Unfortunately for her, the gang leaders are in hiding and now under the protection of the CIA, while dogged FBI agent Lennie James is also on her trail.
It’s all completely daft of course, but the action sequences provide plenty of thrills. And fans of Neytiri from Avatar will welcome the chance to see Zoe Saldana kicking ass once again.
STARRING: Zoe Saldana

Subject: Colombiana
Hmmm? Luc Besson? Murdered parents? Foreign country? Revenge?
These are common elements in films written by French writer/director Luc Besson (Taken, Unleashed, The Professional). And why not? He's had a successful career without having to reinvent the wheel.
Colombiana is essentially another revenge tale. It opens in Bogota where a young girl, Cataleya is present at the murder of her parents, ordered by drug baron Don Luis (Beto Benites).
After time passes, we meet an adult Cataleya (Zoe Saldana) who is now a trained assassin hell-bent on exacting revenge on those who fractured her childhood.
Essentially, Luc Besson has re-written his other young girl turned wannabe hit-woman film, the poignant, dramatic and intense 'The Professional' into an all-action, guns blazing, entertaining cash grab in 'Colombiana'.
'Colombia 39; is an entertaining DVD to watch on a Friday night, but fundamentally is not memorable and not one you would rush out to watch again. 2 1/2 stars.
4 and a half stars out of 5.
