My Best Friend’s Girl signals the return of Pretty in Pink director Howard Deutch to the romantic comedy arena.

Playing like Hitch in reverse, Jason Biggs (American Pie) enlists crass best mate and “rebound guy” Tank (Dane Cook, Good Luck Chuck) to date his ex-girlfriend (Kate Hudson, Fool’s Gold) and thus confirm what a good catch Biggs was in the first place.

But of course the plan backfires when Tank falls for her. The obnoxious Cook voraciously chews the scenery like he fancies himself as the next Will Ferrell (dream on pal!), while Hudson once again finds herself cast as the quintessential girl next door.

This black romantic comedy has the added advantage of being a mutually acceptable date movie for both genders.
