The good news is that if you didn’t play the original Red Dead Revolver on PS2, you won’t need to back track to pick up the story in Red Dead Redemption; they’re completely unrelated.
The bad news is you missed out on playing a superb Wild West shooter. With every new Rockstar game comes ambition, and Redemption is filled to its Steton’s brim with it.
An extensive open world stretches literally as far as the eye can see – and players can trot through every square inch of it. John Marston, a former outlaw, is pulled back into the fray to hunt down a number of his former bad-ass colleagues.
The pursuit of these outlaws takes players through a string of mission-based stories set throughout the West and down into Mexico.
Random events play a significant part of the gameplay in Redemption – you’re never sure what might happen next.
Visually, Redemption is in a league of its own, the shoot-outs are furious and the story links events together like a John Sturges masterpiece.
