Black Rock Studios were the developers behind the superb ATV racer Pure, a game that was critically well received yet failed to sell.
Split/Second is Hollywood wrapped up in a frenetic arcade racer, where the cinematic action is delivered head-on.
Players, competing in a fictional reality TV show, accumulate power-ups by performing drifts and jumps, and these in turn are used to activate attacks on opponents.
Depending on the level of the power-up, weapons have differing effects – sections of track can be removed to send other cars tumbling into underground car parks, helicopters can be commanded to drop crates on your behalf and at the top of the scale, a Boeing 747 can even be used to take out the opposition.
Split/Second is a refreshing take on the racing genre.
