The access code for Crackdown came as part of the Halo 3 multiplayer test in 2007, indicating a measure of hesitation on Microsoft’s behalf.
The game sold 1.6 million copies in the first six months. The run, gun and drive third-person shooter gets a sequel this month, returning players to a very different bleak and broken Pacific City.
The story is kind of irrelevant in a franchise that prides itself on big effects, insane stunts and overblown super powers. Set amidst a more detailed cityscape, CD2 is all about maximum entertainment; driving into, and blowing the scheisse out of genetically altered mutants is all par for the course here.
The developers have adopted an “if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it” mantra and built on the successful elements of the first title.
