Never trust a dragon – just ask Yosemite Sam. Mind you, his was a wee little beastie; in Skyrim you’re a dragonslayer tasked with defeating a fiery god that’s believed to be out to destroy the world. No pressure!

The beloved action RPG series leaps 200 years on from Oblivion, and sees the Skyrim people at war with each other following an unfortunate case of regicide. Your quest will take you through forests, around volcanoes (unless you’re nuts – hey, you can try going through them), into caves and up mountains.

You can stick to your main task, or just trundle about the beauteous countryside taking on side quests or sightseeing, always alert for pesky Nords and dragon attacks.

With new streamlined combat and some 150+ dungeons, Skyrim does its damnedest to redefine ‘big’.

The first thing I'll say is: Say goodbye to your social life. Im only exaggerating of course but Skyrim will take many hours of your life. For those who have never heard of the Elder scroll series it is essentially an action-rpg, where you create your own character and then are free to do whatever you like which can range from simply following the main quest, joining guilds or walking off in a random direction and finding a ton of loot. To write about everything in Skyrim would take me a lot of words so I'll make it short. The combat is fast and fluid, though at times repetitive. The range of different weapons however help take this repetitiveness away as with the extremely satisfying kill animations. The graphics are gorgeous even on the dated consoles, the sheer detail in the world is amazing, reflections from water, mountains in the distance even small things like ants which wouldn't have even been noticed half the time. Skyrim is a phenomenal game with 100+ hrs, offering great value for money as well as an engaging experience.
