We’re living in politically correct times, and the world of games mascots certainly isn’t immune to the tendrils of coochy-coo do-goodery. Helen Lovejoy must be bulging with pride.
Yep, it may raise the hackles of old-school 16-bit gamers, but Mario and Sonic are doing the whole buddy-buddy thing again in the name of next year’s London Olympics.
Pick the plumber or the hedgehog – or one of their many friends – and get to frenzied Wiimote waggling in any of 30+ events. Traditional track, field and swimming collides with the likes of soccer, badminton and even synchronised swimming, whilst new ’dream events’ revisit the stars’ gaming worlds.
Oi, Sonic! Drop those Olympic rings... naughty hedgehog!
