Hello Darkness my old friend... Well, in this case it might be worth dropping the ‘r’ from ‘friend’, you’ll know what we mean if you played the first in the series.

Basically, Jackie’s back. It’s two years later and having harnessed the incredible power of the Darkness with a bit of help from a friendly neighbourhood occultist, he’s gone all crime don on our arses.

He’s far from happy though, missing his beloved Jenny, and on top of that the Darkness seriously wants out of him.

It’s not often you get tentacles as a weapon, but that’s part of the fun of execution combat here, grabbing somebody and unleashing all manner of munitions and mutilations upon them.

Things have also been given a cel-shaded, comic style makeover visually, making the gruesomeness all the more striking. FWAP! BAM! Ouch!

Yeah I actually played and throughly enjoyed the first one. While The Darkness II isn't going to win any prizes for video game innovation, it does offer the gamer a solid shooter with a good story. Having the demons on-board certainly help you out when the lead starts flying, and I just love tearing the hapless enemies in two like a stick of celery.

I wasn't sure about the new comic art-style, but it actually works well. The gameplay is thoroughly enjoyable and I just love having the demons on each shoulder. I don't know what it is, but the guns just feel so bloody good to fire in this game. Well worth the price of admission.
